Hey world! Hold on tight for this 1. U may be blown away just as I was.
2 days ago (Feb 20, 2011), “my gangsta love” [inside joke] called me. A great woman, beautiful heart and a kick ass poetess. My girl, Jamie “JB” Bond. She says to me, “Send me a picture of you, ur contact info, website link.” Im thinking, “What is she up to.?” JB proceeded to tell me, “I want to put ur pic as my facebook profile to represent Black History Month. Well, my mouth hit the floor. My lil ears could not believe what they just heard and my (even smaller) brain could not process the data. Obviously I was in awe and totally speechless. But I managed to asked her, “Are you sure u called the right person?” She replied, “Yes I did.“
After I regained my composure, I sent her the requested info. In the email I asked, “Why me?” “What did I do to deserve such an honor?”
(Here’s the juicy part.) JB replied…
I wanted to honor you on Black history month because its not just about having a resume and accolades but in my eyes its about being about something solid! having common sense coupled with the whole I have a dream package that you are moving forward to achieve!
I sat back and asked myself WHO do I admire and respect but more importantly…
Whose dream and mission would I believe and follow?
two poets immediately came to my mind:
BB1 and Eryk Moore
Black history means so much more than who picked up the ball and started running with it
in all actualality its about whose had the ball since it was passed and WHERE are they running with it?
and like I said Harriett Tubman had dirt roads I gave her kudos when I was in 7th grade lets bring attention to those with bulldozers and gravel creating highways with some off and on ramps for those behind us…
to sum it up…
its not just about our past with who made history
its about our here and now with whose making history!
you sir, are one of them….
I admire you, I respect your gangsta and I adore your pen and thought process I’m the one who is honored to have your pic as my profile in honor of Black History Month.
Thank You!
Jamie

Phew! Yeah, I know that’s heavy. I still amazed. This falls in third place on the list of “the best things to ever happen to me.”
1. when my daughters called me daddy.
2. when my daughters told me they love me.
3. a rep for Black History Month (at least for 1 person)
